Apologies:- John Merry, Jade, Stella
Speaker:- Dr. Gaye Johnston, chair of the Campaign for Labour Party Democracy, gave a summary of highlights of of the previous two decades or more of Labour party changes and the undermining of socialist and democratic functionality and the control of shortlists to deliver New Labour style MPs within the party. She made very many references to her own personal research for her book, which gives more detail, has many highly placed sources including the late Micahel Meacher MP. ===
Some discussions were delayed due to the absence of 2 of the social media officers, generally around ansuring regular upates are made to social media.
===
Agenda section E was then an hour long discussion on the future direction of BB4JC
The core discussion were over the differing objectives of the group. Some felt democratic reforms some felt necessary in the party and the campaigning others felt was more central. It was concluded that there was room for both of these positions in BB4JC and that to signify this, the subtitle "to elect Jeremy as Prime Minister and transform Labour" would be promoted alongside the group name.
Other objectives discussed included
i) Door knocking and other forms of campaigning
ii) Resolving the need for BB4JC to exist
iii) Rectifying a corrupt internal democracy in Labour. The majority of the meeting disputed that Labour was corrupt, but the majority agreed iupon the word "dysfunctional"
iv) Guidance on information media.
v) Focus on internal Labour party obstacles to JC.
vi) Opposing populist right wing rhetoric.
It was also broadly agreed and that for the time being membership of Labour would not be required to be a member of BB4JC.
These informal agreements and interests were not moved as motions, but motions were suggested for subsequent meetings to confirm these discussions. They can be submitted by email to Steven (stevedtrm@yahoo.com) at least 7 days in advance of any notified meeting as described by the rules visible on the Loomio group.
Some suggested motions included:-
i) campaigning groups should be directed to wards.
ii) there should be an informal welcome of some kind for new members
iii) There should be a 2 hour limit to meetings.
iv) This group can not become a momentum branch
v) This group will choose not to be a momentum branch even if the opportunity is available to it.
vi) speicalised subgroups should be formed so people can pick which kinds of BB4JC meeting they attend.
vii) A paltalk group should be trialled.
vii) a digest group should be formed where only occasional and meeting information messages are posted to help people avoid high numbers of notifications.
The meeting closed and Petra suggested a subsequent meeting 15th January. This was immediately posted to watsapp to see if it is a good date for people. Using the a downstairs part of the pub was also discussed to overcome the disability access issue on days where football isnt on.
